Community Spotlight: Uhuru For All Visit to Gomoa Wassa Sparks Hope and Collaboration
Gomoa Wassa, Central Region, Ghana — In a heartfelt exchange between community leaders and representatives of the Uhuru For All, a powerful story of resilience, education, and hope unfolded. The meeting, led by Mr. Abdul M. Sidiq, founder of Uhuru For All, and Seth, a respected elder of the Gomoa Wassa community, highlighted the transformative impact of grassroots efforts in underserved areas.
Uhuru For All, based in the USA, has been active across various regions, providing support where it’s needed most. Their recent visit to Gomoa Wassa was prompted by a call for help from the local school, and the team responded by delivering essential supplies to aid the school’s mission.
Seth, the elder of the community family, shared his reflections on the school’s impact:
“When the school came here, it helped the community—especially our kids whose parents struggle to pay school fees. The teachers are doing well. The children speak better English, they learn well, and they even help clean the town. The teachers also support farmers and assist with homework. They’ve truly become part of the community.”
The conversation turned to the broader challenges facing Gomoa Wassa. Seth emphasized the community’s openness to collaboration:
“We’ve opened our doors. If someone wants land, we’ll help them get it. If they need support from the chiefs, we’ll provide it. We want to help anyone who wants to help the community.”
But the needs remain pressing. Seth outlined the most urgent challenges:
- Water Access: “When the tap is closed, children walk far to fetch water. Boreholes would help.”
- Education Infrastructure: “We need books, a library, and a computer lab. If kids learn with computers, they’ll teach their parents too. That’s how we train a whole nation.”
He also shared a personal vision:
“I once did an interview to push for renovation of the government school. Education is key. At another school, kids share one computer among six or seven. We need a computer lab here. If a child is on midterms, they can come and learn. That will help their education.”
The meeting ended with gratitude and a plea for continued support:
“We thank Uhuru For All for coming. We pray that what we’ve said will touch someone’s heart. We’re ready to give land for a learning center. We just want a comfortable place for our kids to learn.”
