Uhuru For All in Action: Lifting Up a School and a Community in Ghana

In the heart of Gomoa Wassa, a quiet but powerful story of resilience and community spirit is unfolding. Uhuru For All, a U.S.-based NGO dedicated to supporting African communities, recently visited a humble school run by Mr. Clement Boamah—a man whose dedication to education is nothing short of heroic.

Mr. Boamah has been running the school single-handedly, without charging any fees. “It’s very tough,” he admits, “but by God’s grace, we are managing.” A civilian worker at the Takoradi Air Force base, Mr. Boamah uses his modest income to fund the school, occasionally receiving support from a few friends. Yet, the help is not consistent, and the challenges are many.

The school recently relocated to a new site after their previous location became unsuitable. The current structure is temporary, built with limited resources, but it stands as a symbol of determination. Mr. Boamah’s goal is clear: to build a permanent school that can serve the children of Gomoa Wassa for generations to come.

During our visit, we spoke with some of the students—bright, curious, and full of dreams. One young girl told us she wants to be a nurse because she loves helping sick people. Another, Machatyas, proudly declared his dream of becoming a soldier, “for defense.” Their aspirations are a testament to the importance of education and the need for a safe, nurturing learning environment.

Mr. Boamah also shared his vision for sustainability. He plans to start a poultry farm—raising layers and broilers—to generate income that can help feed the children and support the school’s operations. “My brother is an expert,” he explained. “He brought the idea, and we believe it can really help.”

Uhuru For All is here to assess how we can support this initiative. From infrastructure to educational materials, and even the poultry project, we are committed to helping build a future where every child in Gomoa Wassa has access to quality education.

This is more than a school—it’s a lifeline for a community. And with the right support, it can become a beacon of hope for many more.
