From Sociology to Technical Training: Andrews Akunnor’s Transformation with Uhuru and Nes Technology
In a heartfelt conversation, Andrews Akunnor shared his journey from academia to a promising future in technology. A graduate of the University of Ghana, Andrews studied Geography and Sociology, completing his degree in four years. After graduation, he began teaching at a private school, but soon realized that his academic background wasn’t opening the doors he had hoped for.
“Most people are not into that course because they feel like most people become unemployed,”
Andrews explained.
“I want to dive into that course to do something else because it’s not actually being applied in other parts of the world.”
That desire for change led him to Nes Technology Ghana, a leading institution offering hands-on training in mobile phone repairs. Their comprehensive three-month program equips students with the skills to diagnose, repair, and maintain smartphones—a vital skill in today’s tech-driven world. The course is divided into three modules:

- Foundational Module: Covers smartphone anatomy, safe disassembly, and essential tools like multimeters and suction cups.
- Intermediate Module: Focuses on troubleshooting issues like battery failures and screen damage, with guided diagnostics and repair practice.
- Advanced Module: Introduces micro-soldering and PCBA-level fixes, along with business development training for launching repair shops or freelance services.
When Andrews learned about the program, he saw it as a gateway to a more practical and employable skill set.
“The world is moving into technology, and as a youth, I feel it’s crucial to learn more—both hardware and software. It’s knowledge I can apply anywhere.”
Recognizing his potential, Uhuru For All stepped in to sponsor Andrews’ enrollment and training fees. They also provided him with a tablet to support his online learning, ensuring he has the tools to succeed.
This collaboration between Uhuru and Nes Technology Ghana is more than just a training opportunity—it’s a transformative step toward empowering youth with relevant, marketable skills. Andrews’ story is a powerful reminder that with the right support and vision, anyone can pivot toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
